Have a great spring break!

Hello families!

Time seems to be flying! Spring break is already here!

I wish you all a week full of whatever you need most - fun, excitement, adventure or rest, relaxation, recharging.

Take time to read, laugh, be outside and appreciate those around you.

I'm looking forward to seeing you all again in a week's time, when we will hit the ground running and take Term 3 by storm!

2. NetMath - Students worked on 5 different 'livres' today in class. The tasks were assigned as a review of previously taught concepts (from grades 4 and 5) and were assigned in preparation of the our next concepts of study (percents, decimal numbers and fractions) that we'll be starting in April. Students are encouraged to complete any unfinished books when they have chance to do so.

Mondays are for moldy bread and spring rainbows!

Hello! Happy Monday! Happy Spring!

This morning we did St.Patrick's Day themed Math, made moldy bread observations and completed "Spring personality" tests! What a fun morning!

Our "pain humide" has started growing mold. Bread mold is in the Mycète (Fungi) Kingdom.

We are completing our "Spring Personality" tests.

Some of us LOVE spring and some of us DO NOT.

You can tell how much we love spring by how colourful our rainbows are.

Moldy Bread Monday!

Hello! Happy Monday!

In Science, we have started learning about the 6 kingdoms (règnes) of living things. Today's lesson was about Kingdom Fungi (Mycète) and we learned that this kingdom includes living things such as mushrooms, yeast, penicillium and mold.

In keeping with the Fungi theme, we also started an experiment today.
We learned that mold prefers humid environments, so we're putting it to the test!

Using two different types of bread (100% whole wheat and rye) we aim to see if the 'humid bread' (bread with 1 tbsp of water added) will grow mold faster than dry bread.

We will check the bread each day for the next 10 days and will be diagramming our observations throughout.

Math Farm!

Today in Math we worked in randomized groups at the board to solve a series of questions about feet/hoofs and animals. Here is one of the questions (paraphrased to English):

On the farm there are pigs, cows and chickens. All together, there are 82 feet/hoofs. Also, there are 2 more cows than pigs and three more pigs than chickens. How many pigs, cows and chickens are there on the farm?

How would you solve this question? What strategy might you use? How could you show/explain your work in a clear way?

Please ask me about how my group worked to complete this task. Did we arrive at the correct answer? What did we find challenging?

It was so great to see so many families at our Celebration of Learning conferences this evening.

From beating the Taxman, to reading Haiku, to classifying superheroes, there was something for everyone to share and so much learning taking place!
