Tuesday Tomatoes!

Hello! Happy Tuesday!

We had a chance to re-pot our tomato plants to bring home and also celebrated our tomatoes by writing and special tomato-themed Haiku! 🍅

If you brought your tomato plant(s) home today, please be sure to set them up near a window and water them often! When time to replant again, there is no need to remove the plant from its current pot; the peat pot will break down in new soil allowing the roots to continue to grow and take root in its bigger home.
Happy tomato growing! :)

The Results Are In!

Hello! Happy Friday!

Today, after our month-and-a-half-long tomato journey, the results are in!

We planted 28 seeds for each group. 22 seeds germinated in Group T and 24 germinated in Group U.

Compared to the national results, our germinated percents were higher.

And, the results... 𝅘𝅥𝅘𝅥𝅮🥁Da da da daaaaaaaa!𝅘𝅥𝅘𝅥𝅮🥁
Group U went to space! Is that what you had predicted? What made you choose that Group?

We will be celebrating our tomatoes with a tomato-riffic writing activity and will be repotting our plants in class early next week. Thank you for following along on our tomato journey! 🍅

Math Art and Reading Groups

 Hello! Happy Thursday!

Today in Math we used our knowledge of integers and the Cartesian Plane to make Math art!

Please ask me what activity I chose. What did I draw?

In Francais, we started our reading stations in groups for the first time. Students will rotate through literacy centres that include: reading independently, reading with a partner, reading with a teacher, doing an independent activity and a participating in a group activity.

Please ask me about what activity I did today. Did I work by myself or in a group?

How many squares are on a chessboard?

 Good morning! Happy Wednesday!

Our Math brains were working hard this morning when Mme asked us to work on this question:

Combien de carrés se trouvent sur un échiquier? (How many squares are there on a chessboard?)

The answer is not as simple as you would think!

Please ask me about my group's strategy. How did we keep track of all those squares?!

Hello! Happy Monday!

It was nice to see more faces back in class today! This flu/cold stuff is no joke!

Please take care of yourselves and stay well.

Let's have a great week! :)

CFOO!

 What is CFOO?

CFOO (Le Club Fabuleux des Orateurs et Oratrices) is a public speaking "club" (similar to its English friend TUSC) that will help students improve their oral French skills through short presentations. There are fifteen different presentation options, separated into three categories: Opinion, Creativity and Research.

Our CFOO preparation and presentation periods alternate on Day 6, periods 3 and 4.

For the first presentation, we will be choosing one of the five Opinion options. We will prepare a short oral presentation, fulfilling the criteria specific to our topic. (All categories are outlined on the sheet in our binder. There is also a photo posted below). Our presentation is in the form of speech, but our speeches can be take on/be supported with a variety of options: a poster, a puppet play, a poem, a painting, a PowerPoint, a movie, etc. As long as our public-speaking skills are on display, the possibilities are truly endless!

Leading up to the first presentation, we will continue discussing what we should keep in mind while making an oral presentation to the class. This will include: keeping eye contact with the audience, having a confident stance while at the front of the room, projecting our voice and speaking at a good pace with expression.

Mme Careen explained CFOO to us in class today and we will have our first working period Day 6 (Wednesday) of this week. After our one work period at school the rest of the preparation (finishing our speech and practicing our presentation) will happen on our own time. If we would like Mme Careen to review our speech with us before our presentation, we are welcome to make an appointment to work with her at lunch over the coming week (NOT the morning of or 1 minute before presentations start). And, please note that any visual supports must be sent to Teams, emailed to Mme (or brought in on a USB) in advance of presentation day.

Our first CFOO presentations are set for Thursday, December 1. Mark your calendars! :)

A busy week ahead!

Hello families! Happy Monday!

We are headed into a busy week - the last week of Term 1!

Each day this week we will be working hard in our classes to show our best learning of the many concepts we've been working on since September.

Here's a quick overview of the week:

In Math: more mental math calculations, a problem-solving question and a short assessment on "le plan cartésien" and "les nombres entiers."

In Français: a short one-on-one interview with Mme about "ma famille" and a reading task about "Zeniben", a girl who lives in a desert in India.

In Science: Tomatosphere graphing and observations, and the final submission of our tomato results! (We are so excited to find out which group of seeds are our space tomatoes!)

Phew!

Be sure to stay tuned to the blog so you are up to date on all the action!

Thank you for your anticipated hard work and support! :)
